Christ our God, Healer of Our Souls and Bodies

Coronavirus Information and Resources

On Friday, March 20, the Governor of Illinois issued a "stay-at-home" order which will be in effect from Saturday, March 21 through Tuesday, April 7. The order does not exempt places of worship or religious gatherings, and consequently our Bishop of Paul of Chicago and the Midwest has instructed our diocesan parishes in the State of Illinois to close during this period.

In these extraordinary and disquieting times, it is of paramount importance for each of us to remain connected to the Church's life of prayer, and to continue to offer supplications and thanksgivings to God for ourselves, for each other, and for all the world. To this end, Fr Esteban has prepared abbreviated forms of the Great Vespers and Typika services to pray at home on Sundays and Feasts, which are posted below. (Similar orders for Daily Lenten Hours and Vespers will be available soon.) These abbreviated services, which take about 20 minutes each from beginning to end, provide us with prayers to offer in common even while we are temporarily apart. In addition to (but not in place of!) offering up these common parish prayers as individuals or as families, you are warmly encouraged to view the regular live broadcasts of the divine services from the Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Ellwood City, PA.

"Above all things," St Paul reminds us, "put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity" (Colossians 3:14). Continue to pray for each other, and reach out to each other during the challenging weeks ahead: we are one in Christ, and members of One Body!

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM THE OUTBREAK

O God Almighty, Lord of heaven and earth, and of all creation visible and invisible: in Thine ineffable goodness, look down upon us, Thy people gathered in Thy holy Name. Be our helper and defender in this day of affliction. Thou knowest our weakness. Thou hearest our cry in repentance and contrition of heart. O Lord, who lovest mankind, deliver us from the impending threat of the coronavirus. Send Thine angel to watch over us and protect us. Grant health and recovery to those suffering from this virus. Guide the hands of physicians and preserve those who are healthy. Enable us to continue to serve our suffering brothers and sisters in peace, that together we may glorify Thy most honorable and majestic Name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
